Blessed Are the Meek...

  • Northridge United Methodist Church 4610 Derr Road Springfield, OH, 45503 United States (map)

Welcome to Northridge UM Church. This Sunday, Lay leader Karen Grube will continue our journey through the season of Lent, which began Wednesday, the 18th!

What is Lent, you might ask? Lent is a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by Christians in preparation for Easter.

Lent began on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday (April 4), the day before Easter, lasting 40 days (excluding Sundays, which are considered mini Easters) to mirror significant biblical events, such as Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness, Moses’ 40 days on Mt. Sinai (Exodus 24:18; 34:28), and Elijah’s 40-day journey to Mt. Horeb (1 Kings 19:18; Exodus 34:28).

The term “Lent” comes from the Old English word lencten, meaning “spring,” reflecting both the season and the idea of spiritual renewal. Lent is a season of preparation, repentance, and self-discipline. Christians use this time to reflect on Jesus’ life, suffering, death, and resurrection, and to deepen their relationship with God.

The three mani practices during Lent, are:

Prayer: Increasing personal devotion and reflection to strengthen spiritual connection.

Fasting: Abstaining from foods or habits to practice self-discipline and imitate Christ’s sacrifice.

Almsgiving: Acts of charity and service to others, emphasizing compassion and generosity.

Come and learn what it means to be meek and to live a more humble life! Come declare Jesus as your Savior, honor, glorify and praise His name! He blesses us every day!

Texts for the day are: James 4:6, Ephesians 4:2, and Matthew 5:5.

Know that you are welcome here!
